If you are confused about what you should be eating, then join the club. Everyone is telling you something different. Much of the nutritional advice that you have received has been dead wrong. In this workbook we will focus on 3 popular nutritional plans and the authors behind them. These authors are all passionate about nutrition and helping you achieve wellness. However, even these giants in nutrition disagree on lots of things. In this workbook we will look at the science behind each diet. We will discuss eight things that they disagree on. And, in the final core concept we will focus on the four things that they all agree on. This seems like a good place to start if your goal is to achieve wellness. So let’s set sail on this amazing journey in which you will learn to fuel your body with the nutrients that it needs to enjoy life to the fullest. Together, let’s crack the nutrition code!
Here are the 6 Core Concepts presented in this workbook. Each Core Concept is supported by 4 chapters.
Give Your Cells What They Want
In this first Core Concept we establish some nutritional ground rules. It’s simple. If you give your cells what they really need, then they function normally. That results in wellness. In this section we will establish a template which we can use to evaluate any diet.
The Zone Diet (Barry Sears, PhD.)
Dr. Sears has been way ahead of the curve when it comes to nutrition for many years. In this core concept we will review the science behind his diet plan and learn just how easy it is to live “in the zone.” Importantly, you will learn how to prevent silent inflammation which is the common thread in most of our chronic illnesses.
Plant-Based Diet (Caldwell Esselstyn, MD., Colin Campbell, PhD.)
The book, The China Study rocked the nutrition world. This was the most thorough study on the effects of nutrition on health ever conducted. The data was overwhelming. Those populations who ate mostly a plant-based diet were the healthiest. But can you get enough protein if you go vegan? The answer is a resounding YES!
Diet Evolution (Steven Gundry, MD)
Just because you have a family history of heart disease or cancer, does not mean that you are cursed. Whether or not you activate your “killer genes” depends largely on your diet. The good news is that by making the right food choices, you can activate your “restorative genes” which will keep you around longer.
What the Nutrition Giants Don’t Agree On
All of these authors are exceptional physicians and scientists. They are all passionate about nutrition and helping you achieve wellness. However, even these giants in nutrition disagree on lots of things. In this core concept we will discuss eight things that they disagree on. In addition, Wellness Cove will weigh in on these 8 controversial areas.
What the Nutrition Giants Agree On
In the final core concept we will focus on the four things that all of the authors agree on. This seems like a good place to start if your goal is to achieve wellness. However, it is not enough to just know what you should be eating. The challenge is to actually make it happen. That is what makes Wellness Cove Workbooks different. Using the workbook format, we push you to take action, and to apply the principles that you learn to your life and your situation. As always, this is your workbook, your answers, and your plan.
